Our Community Care Program

Hearts for Street Dogs provides direct support to unhoused pet owners in the Reno area by supplying essential items that help pets remain safe, fed, and cared for while staying with their owners. Our program focuses on practical assistance that meets immediate needs and prevents pets from being surrendered to shelters.

What We Provide

Our Community Care Program distributes essential pet supplies directly to people experiencing homelessness. Donations are used to provide:

  • Pet food and treats

  • Collars, harnesses, and leashes

  • Dog beds and blankets

  • Toys and comfort items

  • Seasonal supplies for extreme weather conditions

These items help improve daily living conditions for pets and reduce health and safety risks associated with life on the streets.

How The Program Works

Direct Street Outreach

We deliver supplies directly to unhoused pet owners through street-level outreach. This allows us to respond quickly to urgent needs and ensure donations reach the pets they are intended to support.

Community Donation Network

We partner with local businesses and community members to collect pet supplies at accessible donation locations. Donated items are sorted and distributed based on current needs in the community.

Ongoing Support

When possible, we provide continued assistance to individuals and their pets, helping them maintain care and stability over time.

Why This Program Exists

Many shelters and services are not accessible to people with pets. Without support, pet owners may be forced to choose between caring for themselves and keeping their animals. Our program helps remove that barrier by supplying the basic resources pets need to stay healthy and with the people who love them.

By providing food and essential supplies, we help keep families together and reduce the strain on overcrowded animal shelters.

Who We Serve

The Community Care Program serves unhoused individuals and families who have companion animals and limited access to pet care resources. We also work alongside volunteers, donors, and local partners who want to support humane, community-based solutions.

Support The Program

Donations and volunteer support directly fund and sustain this program. Every contribution helps provide essential supplies to pets living on the streets and supports the well-being of both animals and their owners.
